Fleet Administrative Manager
OVERVIEW
The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of the pelagic fishing industry, be proactive, and possess strong administrative and analytical capabilities. This position reports directly to the General Manager and is based at our Fleet Office in St Helena Bay.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure compliance with fishing, environmental, and safety regulations, including permit and license application processes
- Monitor fishing quotas, manage licensing requirements, and maintain up-to-date regulatory compliance
- Liaise with authorities such as DFFE, SAMSA, and ICASA to ensure legal and operational adherence
- Manage fleet-related financials including budgeting, expense tracking, payroll submissions for sea-going staff, and identifying cost-saving opportunities
- Track fleet performance metrics (catch rates, fuel consumption, vessel efficiency) and support the Fleet Team in optimising performance and profitability
- Maintain effective communication and relationships with stakeholders including suppliers, regulatory agencies, customers, and industry bodies
- Oversee crew recruitment, training, and succession planning for key vessel roles
- Coordinate procurement of parts, equipment, maintenance services, fuel, and supplies for fleet operations
- Continuously identify and implement improvements in operational processes and practices
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
- 5–10 years of relevant experience in the pelagic fishing industry
- Strong knowledge of permit systems, quota management, and regulatory compliance
- Understanding of maritime regulations and SAMSA standards
- Proficiency in SAGE Payroll and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Fully bilingual in Afrikaans and English (written, spoken, and reading)
- Exceptional organisational, communication, and multitasking skills
- High attention to detail and strong recordkeeping abilities
- Ability to work independently, under pressure, and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated reliability, integrity, and team collaboration
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed
