Our History

West Point Processors is a pelagic fish processing factory in St. Helena Bay, South Africa, and has been around since 1905. It produces canned fish, like the iconic Saldanha Pilchards brand, as well as fishmeal and fish oil mainly targeted to the global aquaculture industry.

With a heavy focus on sustainability of our raw materials and finished products, West Point Processors only catch fish from well managed stocks and within FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation) approved fishing zones. Traceability is managed to ensure that all products produced in the factory maintain the highest level of global standards and certifications possible.

Major upgrades to the cannery, fishmeal plant and jetty were undertaken between 2005 and 2013, which paved the way for the factory to receive HACCP certification for health and quality in 2012 as well as the ISO 22000 certification in October 2013. In 2020, the cannery was given their FSSC certification, making it the first canned fish manufacturer to have this certification in South Africa. The factory continues to be upgraded year on year to ensure that we stay ahead of the curve and continue to produce only the finest quality products for both local and export markets.

West Point is a family first company, and is heavily invested in the people surrounding the factory. With many CSI initiatives assisting the community and its surroundings from requests for new equipment for schools to housing developments and food parcels. West Point Processors has the motto of family and community first.
