Chief Engineer - Seagoing
OVERVIEW
West Point Fishing Corporation, a well-known company requires qualified Chief Engineer for our vessel MFV “Silver Katonkel”.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
- The successful candidate will ensure fully operational vessel operating safely and effectively in accordance with SAMSA and other related Maritime Regulation and company policies.
- The incumbent will report to the Skipper.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in operation and engine room watch keeping
- Refueling while in port
- Operating fishing gear, along with the maintenance thereof
- Ensure that engine room complies with safety; emergency procedures and good housekeeping practices
- General maintenance and mechanical repairs of the main engine, auxiliary engine, during the season and off season
- Administration of engine logbook and diesel logbook
- Implementation and assists with maintaining safety in the area of responsibility
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Marine Motorman Grade1 (Chief Engineer Ticket <750KW)
- All associated ancillary courses must be in date as required by SAMSA, including LRC, SOF, PST, PSSR, FPFF, MFA etc.
- The ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of the latest fishing technologies including electronics, hydraulic, electrical and propulsion systems.
- Along with your net mending skills, you have knowledge of ropes, wires, knots and splicing,
- Must be familiar with Safety Management System of the Pelagic Fleet Operations,
- Must be able to work independently and under pressure.
- Must have good administrative, communication and management skills.
- Willing to work infrequent hours and long periods away from home.
